On July 14th, 2009, the Wilson and BGH laboratories will be unveiling a change with regards to glucose reporting. This change is a result of both a need to streamline reporting within the laboratory, as well as to assist providers in the diagnosis of diabetes using stringent ADA requirements. The change will affect how fasting, non-fasting, and point of care glucose laboratory reports will look.
The changes to each are as follows:
For Non-Fasting Glucose reports, the normal range will now be listed as 65-99 mg/dL, and the test will be identified as a non-fasting (random) glucose, with a statement identifying the range as a fasting glucose range. For Fasting Glucose reports, the normal range will now be listed as 65-99 mg/dL, and will continue to be accompanied by a reference range guideline delineating normal, pre-diabetic, and provisional diabetic cut-off levels. For Point of Care Glucose reports, the normal range will now be listed as 65-99 mg/dL, with no accompanying comments or guidelines.
