Ordering Appropriate Treatments

Under the “Principles of Partnership” policy approved several years ago by the Medical Executive Committee, physicians and hospital staff are to refrain from treating relatives, close friends, or themselves. The policy states: “The community deserves to have the best care that they can receive, and objective, judicious clinical decision-making cannot be made in the presence of an emotional/subjective relationship.

Practitioners will not order tests, write prescriptions, or make clinical recommendations for themselves or for people who are not their patients.” This policy is enforced by the hospital service departments.
