Admission Status Protocol

The purpose of the Admission Status Protocol is to place patients who require hospitalization at the correct admission status. When a patient presents who needs hospitalization, an order should be written to “Admit to Care Management Protocol”. This allows the case manager to determine the best status to place the patient based on InterQual criteria. A patient cannot be admitted without a doctor’s order, so this must be present or signed off within 24 hours. If the doctor disagrees with the determination, he/she can confer with Care Management and write a new order.
