Effective with October 1, 2010 Discharges - New Acute Myocardial Infarction Core Measure AMI-10 Statin Prescribed at Discharge: Acute myocardial infarction (AMI) patients who are prescribed a statin at hospital discharge.

Current ACC/AHA guidelines place a strong emphasis on the initiation or maintenance of statin drugs for patients hospitalized with AMI, particularly those with LDL-cholesterol levels above 100 mg/dL.

As ACC/AHA guidelines recommend this we should be doing this already for our AMI patients, even though the reporting will not start until October cases, documentation should include an order for statin at discharge or acceptable reason for not prescribing statin at discharge.

The abstractors have been auditing July and August AMI records to determine how we are doing with the new AMI-10 Measure. Overall score is 93% (53/57)
