Assigning Correct Level of Care

Friday, March 25, 2011 at 11:34:13 AM

The Admission Status Protocol (ASP) sheet was designed to increase the number of hospitalized patients assigned to the correct level of care. The ASP sheets are implemented by the Nurse Care Manager once a physician determines that the patient needs to be treated within a hospital setting. The ASP sheet reads admit as inpatient versus observation services. Guidelines to determine correct level of care are InterQual Guidelines. Physician signature is necessary for acknowledgment and agreement for level of care determination. The protocol is not in effect until a signature is present. It is important that this occurs as soon as possible after admission. Please discuss any concerns or questions with Care Management staff.
