ICA (Ionized Calcium ) CHANGES

Effective July 6, 2011, the laboratory at WMH will be changing the reporting units, reference range and panic values for the ICA (Ionized Calcium) method.

A summary of the changes is provided below:

OLD

Reporting Units: mg/dL

Reference Range: 4.5-5.3

Panic Values: Less than/equal to 2.5

Panic Values: Greater than/equal to 7.0

NEW

Reporting Units:mmol/L

Reference Range: 1.1-1.3

Panic Values: Less than/equal to 0.7

Panic Values: Greater than/equal to 1.7

These changes are being made in order to align with manufacturer and regulatory recommendations.
