Transthoracic Echocardiogram Criteria

UHS Hospitals Cardiac Ultrasound Labs are now requiring that all echocardiogram orders be accompanied by an “appropriate” indication.

Appropriateness Criteria for Transthoracic Echocardiography is available on the website of both the American College of Cardiology (www.acc.org) and the American Society of Echocardiography (www.asecho.org).

June 2012 The most common indications are:

1. Acute Coronary Syndrome
2. Arrhythmia
3. Cardiac Trauma
4. Chest Pain
5. CHF
6. Murmur
7. Endocarditis
8. Myocardial Ischemia/Infarction
9. Pericardial Disease
10. SOB
11. Syncope
12. Pulmonary Hypertension
13. TIA/CVA
14. Valvular Heart Disease Please indicate what Cardiologist (or group) to read your study by determining:

1. The established Cardiologist for the patient or
2. The Cardiologist (or group) on consult.
