Wednesday, June 27, 2012 at 11:53:40 AM

Signs that abuse or neglect may be occurring are:

• patient with bruising or other injuries for which there is no adequate explanation
• patient seems fearful or uncomfortable regarding a caregiver or returning home
• patient appears poorly cared for or unable to meet his or her own needs
• patient’s partner or
• caregiver behaves in a controlling or intimidating manner toward the patient.

At UHS, a social worker is available 24/7 for consultation. Contact the hospital operator and ask that the “Child Abuse Liaison” be paged as they can assist adult cases as well.
