Novel Influenza A (H7N9): Avian Flu**

Attention Clinicians: NYSDOH and the CDC have issued an Urgent Health Advisory: Recently, cases of novel Influenza A (H7N9), "Avian Flu" have been identified in four different areas of China. Clinicians should consider the possibility of novel influenza A (H7N9) virus infection in persons with respiratory illness and recent travel to China. It is imperative that a full travel history be taken on all patients presenting with influenza like illness. Precautions should be taken with laboratory specimens - Please notify the lab immediately if Influenza A (H7N9) viral infection is suspected. Call 763-6528. Specimens will be sent to NYSDOH for analysis. Due to the seriousness of this virus, the CDC has required that no testing/culture be performed at hospital laboratories.
