To comply with the recent NYSDOH regulation, UHS has adopted a system-wide policy that anyone working on a UHS campus will need proof of vaccination, or must wear a mask throughout the flu season. This will include employees, volunteers, students, providers, residents, contracted workers, and vendors. Vaccine clinics will be available beginning in August and running through the fall. Those who receive a vaccine will be provided a badge identifier. The deadline for vaccination is November 1st.

Vaccinations are now quadrivalent, meaning they cover 4 strains of influenza. We also now offer vaccinations for those with egg or latex allergies. Those who opt not to receive a vaccination will need to visit the Employee Health Office in person to sign a declination form, and begin wearing a mask on November 1st. The duration of the flu season typically lasts until May. If a vaccination is obtained offsite (CVS, Walgreens, etc.) the employee is responsible for obtaining proof and providing it to the Employee Health Office.

The Employee Health Office will provide Department Managers with a list of who has received the vaccination. Managers will be expected to maintain this list and monitor mask usage on their unit. Non-compliance will be monitored and handled by Department Managers and Medical Leadership.

Questions regarding the influenza vaccination can be directed to Employee Health, Occupational Medicine and Infection Control. Flu shots will be given at General Staff meeting on Monday, Oct. 21.
