In an effort to improve operational efficiency and ensure the highest level of quality patient test results, the Chemistry Departments at WMH and BGH are revising the timeline for archiving patient specimen(s). This decision was based on a combination of manufacturer recommendations, regulatory guidelines, and statistical analysis of add-on testing requests.
Effective immediately, all specimens tested in the Chemistry department will be archived for a total of four (4)days (including day of collection). Add-on test(s) requested by providers will be evaluated on a case by case basis, taking into account both specimen stability and availability.
The exception to this will be any urine drug screen with initial positive screen result(s). These specimens will be stored frozen for a period of two(2)weeks.
