On April 29th, 2014, the Chemistry laboratories at WMH and BGH will be transitioning to new Chemistry equipment, the Roche Cobas 6000. This equipment will represent a consolidation of multiple instruments currently in use at WMH, and for both sites will represent a movement towards more streamlined operations. Encompassed in this new instrumentation will be a number of changes, including:
• The conversion from Troponin I to Troponin T
• Minor changes to the existing drug screens performed in-house
• Minor changes to a minimal number of chemistry profiles and tests currently offered
[Additional information will be provided in separate communications to clarify these changes]
In addition, slight variations in methodology may result in alterations to existing reference, or normal ranges, for a number of tests performed within the Chemistry department. As a result, patient reports for testing performed at both WMH and BGH may show slight differences when compared to existing reference ranges, but these differences have been evaluated by the lab and determined to not be clinically significant.
Should there be any questions, please contact the WMH Chemistry Supervisor, Angela K. Armato, at 763-5780, or the BGH Laboratory Supervisor, Rosie Parkinson, at 762-2366. Thank you.
