Important Message about Nuclear Medicine Studies

Monday, December 10, 2007 at 10:07:40 AM

Please be advised that all nuclear medicine studies have been canceled until further notice due to a shortage of the radioisotope needed to perform the study. The reactor in Canada that supplies more than two-thirds of the world's radioisotopes has shut down and will not be in full production until January. Nuclear medicine studies on an emergency or pre-operative basis may be possible the week of December 17. Please contact Nuclear Medicine 763-6370 for more information or with questions. This is a world-wide problem. Atomic Energy of Canada states that they "understand that patients will be impacted by this development, and we are focused on completing the work procedures as quickly as possible." The Saturday, December 8 edition of the Binghamton Press Connects printed a detailed article about the shortage.
