Thursday, June 26, 2008 at 2:03:32 PM

A recent letter was received from the Commissioner of Health urging all physicians to carefully review their infection control practices in the office and the practices of all staff under their supervision. This warning comes as the result of several cases of lapses in technique with very serious consequences. Key infection control practices are: 1) establish and maintain infection control policies and procedures; 2) properly use and handle needles, cannulae and syringes; 3) properly handle medications and solutions; 4) strictly adhere to aseptic technique; 5) properly reprocess medical equipment; and 6) fulfill all federal and state requirements for infection control training.
