Pressure Ulcers to Impact Reimbursement

Thursday, July 10, 2008 at 9:01:03 AM

The new CMS guidelines for reimbursement in acute care state beginning October 1, 2008, hospital acquired pressure ulcers, among other adverse events, will no longer qualify for reimbursement. Hospitals will have to insure that all pressure ulcers be identified and diagnosed by a physician upon patient admission in the admission note. Reference cards and photographs of pressure related wounds will be available to enable more accurate identification. The information will be available on the intranet, clinical tab/intranet, and in physician lounges.
