Signing Death Certificates

Physicians are urged to sign death certificates without delay, even if they are the covering physician, as long as natural causes can be ascertained. Holding them causes many problems for the funeral directors and for the families. Death certificates are required by regulation to be signed within 24 hours of the time of death. The Switchboard can provide blank forms to the physician office if needed.
