The Department of Health is promoting the “Image Gently Campaign: Working Together to Change Practice” sponsored by the Alliance for Radiation Safety in Pediatric Imaging. The purpose is to raise awareness of the radiation burden to patients, to encourage the use of appropriateness criteria in choosing the imaging modality, and to use the lowest radiation dose commensurate with good imaging. This is especially important for children.

The widespread use of multi-slice computed tomography is being analyzed locally for appropriateness and potential need for information dissemination to specific physicians and departments.
