Peer Review Structural Change

The Medical Staff Quality Committee is proposing a revision to the peer review committee structure. Rather than organizing peer review based on department membership, cases will be reviewed along functional lines. Surgical cases would be reviewed by a combined group of surgery, anesthesiology, orthopedics, dentistry, podiatry, and gynecology. Medical cases would be reviewed by medical, family medicine, and physical medicine practitioners. Maternal/child cases would be reviewed by obstetrics, family medicine, and pediatrics. Combining efforts will allow learning and procedural changes to impact quality in a much more comprehensive way. Separate groups would be maintained for behavioral health, emergency medicine, pathology, and radiology. The Medical Executive Committee is looking for feedback from the departments on this structural change. Please provide your comments to your department chair.
